70% of those who committed suicide last year were married

A report by the National Crime Record Bureau points out that last year, 69.2% of those who committed suicide were married, and one among every five persons who killed themselves was a housewife.

Around 70% of the Indians who ended their life last year were married, a report says.

A report by the National Crime Record Bureau points out that last year, 69.2% of those who committed suicide were married, and 22.8% were unmarried.

Also, one among every five persons who committed suicide was a housewife.

A total of 61,453 married men and 31,754 married women ended life in 2010.

While, the number of unmarried men who killed themselves was 19,702, and that of unmarried women was 11,108.

The rest were widowed, or divorced.

The grand total of suicide cases in the country was 1,34,599.

The sex ratio for the suicides was 65-35, which means that for every 65 men who committed suicide, there were 35 women who took the extreme step.
