Amitabh Bachchan, Kader Khan bury the hatchet
Kader Khan says his relationship with Amitabh Bachchan is no longer strained, all thanks to the actor.
He has written dialogues for various Amitabh Bachchan hits — Sharaabi (1984), Coolie (1983), Lawaaris (1981), Muqaddar Ka Sikandar (1978), Amar Akbar Anthony (1977), Satte Pe Satta (1982), Hum (1991) and Agneepath (1990) among others. But over the years, Kader Khan and Bachchan’s legendary partnership became strained. A few years ago, in an interview, the former said that “…Amitabh ke saath jo mera rishta tha... jab wo MP (Member of Parliament) ban gaya... to main khush nahi tha (I was not happy when I found out that he had become an MP)”.
Khan was hurt because Bachchan was apparently the one who discouraged him from joining politics. He even went on to say that their relationship would never be the same again. But now, their equation seems to have returned to normal.
Khan reveals that Bachchan spoke to him and sorted out their issues about a year ago. “Beech mein thoda naasaaz ho gaya tha (our relationship had soured a little for a while). I was a bit upset, par phir unhone mana liya (but then Bachchan pacified me; things are fine now),” he says, adding, “Nowadays, he sends cards across on Eid and Diwali too.” Khan’s son, Shahnawaz, adds, “Abba (dad) even spoke to Amit uncle when he was admitted to the hospital the last time.”
Meanwhile, the veteran actor is now also looking forward to making a comeback to the film industry. He last starred in the Akshay Kumar and Bachchan-starrer Family (2006). “Some people even want me to write again, so let’s see,” says Khan.
