Himachal mindset of not wanting a girl child is worse than any other state in India, feels Kangana Ranaut

Kangana Ranaut, who hails from Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, has criticised the patriarchal mindset of the community.

Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut ran away from her home in Himachal Pradesh as a teenager to fulfill her dreams. She tried her luck in becoming a model and then debuted as an actor with Gangster in 2006. Over the years, Kangana has shared her views on several issues, be it nepotism in the film industry or about her opinions as a newly elected MP from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. In her latest post on X, Kangana has shared her feelings about the patriarchal mindset in Himachal where people are not happy when a girl child is born in the family after marriage.

What did Kangana say?

In X, a user shared a video of a Himachali woman who gave birth 11 times after marriage. The first ten children were all girls and only the eleventh one was a boy. The user criticised this and wrote, 'Imagine making a woman go through pregnancy after pregnancy, basically her entire life, just because having 10 daughters still wasn’t enough. How badly do you have to dehumanise a woman to reduce her entire existence to one job: produce a son.'

Kangana replied on this post and agreed to it, further adding, “In Himachal this mindset is worse than any other state I feel, I remember when one of my cousins had a second baby girl people poured in to their home for condolences , she called me and cried that relatives/people are coming to talk to her like someone has died she just can’t take it anymore, I was not shocked but helpless. One of my cousin’s wife was in depression because she had a second girl child, family and husband were very supportive but she didn’t want to see the baby’s face or touch her, it was so bad that she had to be admitted, now she is ok but it was beyond traumatic even for the older daughter, very sad situation out there.”

Kangana's latest remarks

For the last few weeks, Kangana has been making headlines after sharing multiple posts against Gen Z and condemning the language used by some of the protesters. She sparked a major social media controversy by labelling certain young demonstrators as "Generation Gutter" and describing their viral protest clips as "puke-inducing." A few days ago, she took a U-turn and said that the Gen Z are the country's strength.

On the work front, Kangana Ranaut’s latest venture has been the film Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata. Directed by Manoj Tapadia, the film based on the true story of the nurses and staff at Cama Hospital who saved the lives of patients during the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks. It received an underwhelming response at the box office is set to release on Zee5 on August 14.
