Customs officials at Mumbai’s international airport say that they were tipped off about actor Minissha Lamba, 26, carrying unaccounted for jewellery on the flight from France on Wednesday. Lamba, 26, was detained at the airport and found to be carrying undeclared jewellery worth Rs 30 lakh.

“We got a tip-off that she is travelling with expensive jewellery. We did not single her out just because she’s a celebrity. We did what we would, with anyone found in possession of undeclared goods while walking through the green channel,” says an official of the customs team that detained her, wishing not to be named.

While Minissha, who was let off late on Wednesday night, refused to comment, her publicist said, “She was coming back with the same jewellery that she had taken from India to Cannes. The jewellery was sponsored by Anmol Jewellers. She just didn’t do some paperwork.”

In 2009, Mumbai socialite Sheetal Mafatlal was also detained by Customs for allegedly carrying jewellery worth Rs 1 crore without declaring it.
