How’s your phone been keeping after
Rock On
!!?
Ha, it hasn’t stopped ringing. When I’m out on the streets, I get half-confused smiles. And if I’m at a restaurant, the table next to mine starts buzzing suddenly. Being part of a hit film does make a difference.
How many times have you watched the movie?
(Laughs) Eight times, so far.
The rock routine wasn’t very authentic..
(Cuts in) Rock comes in so many forms.. classic rock, heavy metal, grunge, new age, alternative.. Ehsaan (Noorani) is a true blue rocker. He teamed up with Shankar (Mahadevan) and Loy (Mendonca) and they created their own sound. Instead of trying to point out what it isn’t, just enjoy the music for what it is.
Were you ever part of a college band?
I was at National College and spent loads of time with our band,

. I learnt a few strings on the guitar like .. the

tune. When I got
Rock On!!,
I bought myself a set of drums. I’m getting there. Earlier, my friends would leave the room within 10 minutes once I started playing, now they stay on a bit.
From a teenybopper of the TV show,

, to now.. how’s it been?
At 18, I swore I’d never do an ‘uncool’ Hindi serial.. and did
Hip Hip Hurray
. Followed eight years with Channel [V]. Then, the lead in
Bas Yun Hi
..!
No problems on the way?
I wish more people had noticed me in
Awarapan
. I played an obnoxious guy, I just had four-five scenes but I’d do that role again.
What’s happening to
Marathon
?
You tell me. I shot for that nearly three years ago. I even got myself a cool new hairstyle.
Any more films?
A Rectangular Story.. a crazy, romantic, Rajat Kapoor kind of a comedy.
And how’s married life?
Great, it’s been 10 months. Yamini (Namjoshi) and I were pretty much living in for nearly two years before mum insisted on a wedding. I think mum just wanted a big party.. so we gave her one.
