Mumbai put on its running shoes and showed up in full strength at the Mumbai Marathon on Sunday, making Delhi-ites sit up and wonder why the Capital couldn’t put up such a power-packed Half Marathon last year, in November.

“In Mumbai, people will wake up early in the morning to cheer the participants, whereas in Delhi, they will wake up only to ‘watch’ them,” says actor Gul Panag, who ran both the Delhi and Mumbai marathons. Model Amanpreet Wahi says, “Delhi is just plain lazy.”

Adman Prahlad Kakkar points at other reasons. “Mumbaikars see it as an occasion to raise money. Also, Mumbai is much safer than Delhi.”
