Rajinikanth rules even in the online world. Around three weeks ago, Bollywood Hungama, a Hindi movie and music website, along with Ponds, a skincare brand, flagged off the first-ever online celebrity stock exchange game, The Game of Fame that offers gamers a chance to trade in movies and matinee idols 365 days of the year. And within weeks, Rajnikanth had sold out! Now fans of the South supreme are waiting for some of the 1,000 shares to come back into the market so they can bid too.
Along the lines of Monopoly or Business, here a consumer can log in using their personal Facebook account. Each player starts out with 50,000 dollars. The virtual currency can be used to buy and sell movies and stars on the basis of their availability and prices.
As they build their portfolio, players trade amongst each other. Weekly leaders are declared on the basis of their portfolio valuation and every month the highest gainers get a chance to feature on the Wall Of Fame and win BlackBerry phones, iPods, gift hampers and mobile downloads. And one winner every month will get an exclusive movie memorabilia. The first giveaway for February 2012, to be announced next week, is Hrithik Roshan’s trademark white shirt from the year’s first blockbuster, Agneepath. The game will soon be available as an application on Facebook and on mobiles as well.
Pointing out that the game offers Bollywood fans a chance to own movies and stars they enjoy watching, Siddhartha Roy, COO, Hungama Digital Media Entertainment, says, “Consumers today enjoy new concepts that break the monotony of their regular digital world. We provide that with this game.”
From the movies — and the anticipated ones score higher than those already out — Saif Ali Khan’s home production, Agent Vinod that opens on March 23, tops the bids, closely followed by Vidya Balan’s next, Kahaani. Even without a single frame being shot, Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif’s Dhoom 3 comes in at three. Stars can help you earn more and right now, Aamir is the bestseller followed by Shah Rukh Khan. Salman, who ranked third, has been nudged out by Saif, who after the brawl at Wasabi on Tuesday, has become a must-have!
