On Thursday, cricketer Sachin Tendulkar became the first Indian to cross the one-million followers mark on Twitter. He now has a total of 10,06,046 followers, and counting.

Last week, celebs such as photographer Atul Kasbekar and actor Riteish Deshmukh lobbied for the cricketer, asking people to follow his handle @sachin_rt, so that he could reach the million mark.
“Sachin is just 2000+ followers from a million, btw do I get a ‘Twitter-Ratna’ for getting him on board (sic.),” wrote Kasbekar on April 19.
Sachin, who last tweeted on April 15, has yet to comment on his new record, but the Twitterati have already begun celebrating.
“Congrats sir! You’ve crossed 1 million followers,” wrote Mitali Gaur, who was among the first fans to congratulate Sachin.
“God tussi great ho. You’re the first person in India to cross the 10 lakh mark,” wrote Manoj Yadav.
“Yay! Sachin is now a Twillionaire, I’m so proud,” wrote Aditya Nanavati.
