Saif's second home production goes on the floor
It looks like Saif Ali Khan’s Illuminati Films has finally resolved the differences with Eros Entertainment that arose while producing Love Aaj Kal. The team has decided to co-produce Agent Vinod.entertainment Updated: May 31, 2010 13:56 IST
After the success of their first joint venture, Love Aaj Kal, it was believed that Khan and Eros would continue their association for Agent Vinod also given that the Imtiaz Ali-directed romantic comedy with Khan and Deepika Padukone had reportedly made a net profit of Rs 50 crore, after calculating the budget of Rs 45 crore and other deductions.
However, given the scale and magnitude of a spy thriller that Agent Vinod was expected to be, there were differences between Illuminati Films and Eros Entertainment.
According to a source associated with the movie, “They were looking at a budget of about Rs 55 crore. But last year’s multiplex strike and the swine flu scare added to the aftermath of the economic slowdown. Eros personnel wanted to curb expenses and downsize the budget.”
Reportedly, Khan didn’t accept the re-sized budget of the film and so, Cinemax stepped in as the presenters of Agent Vinod. But Dinesh Vijan of Illuminati Films denies the involvement of Cinemax, saying that they were going ahead with the same budget they started off with.
The recent developments indicate that Vijan’s statements were bang on and the exhibitor chain is not in the picture. “Eros is associated with Illuminati Films for Agent Vinod. The movie rolled on Friday night at a certain location in Kandivli,” revealed our source.
While Khan, Vijan and Sunil Lulla of Eros were unavailable for comment, director Sriram Raghavan confirmed the news with a text message: “Yes, we begin shooting tonight (Friday night).
We’re doing an action sequence with Saif and another actor. It’s a flashback sequence. I can’t reveal more.”The reason: he was “in some prep” for the movie, the main shooting for which starts in Morocco next month.
