Sania Mirza's career and controversies always go hand in hand. Here're few of them...

Calling off engagement
This is the latest on the list. Going by her track record the lady will stop at nothing to make it to a reasonably long list of controversies that adorn her name! She told the world that she'd quit tennis after marriage, something made her chnage her mind for sure. We'd like to know what that was.

Provocative attire
As a Muslim, she has always been at the receiving end of criticism as well as fatwas from several Islamic groups, as her attire didn't conform to Islamic dress codes.

Islamist groups such as Jamiat-ulema-e-Hind even threatened to disrupt her tennis matches, following which the Calcutta police had to tighten security measures to protect her.

Naional flag controversy
Sania Mirza was pictured resting her feet during a press conference at the 2008 Hopman Cup, with an Indian flag in close proximity.

She faced possible prosecution under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act after a private citizen complained. Mirza protested that, "I love my country, I wouldn't be playing Hopman Cup otherwise", and said that she meant no disrespect.

Expressing desire to quit
On February 4, 2008, Mirza said that she would stop appearing in tennis tournaments held in India, starting with the 2008 Bangalore Open the following month, citing the series of controversies and upon advice by her manager.
