After falling out, erstwhile buddies Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan seem to be doing all they can to bury the hatchet

Filmmaker Karan Johar and actor Shah Rukh Khan are going the extra mile to rekindle their once thick but of late dwindling friendship. After going through a series of controversies involving Priyanka Chopra and Salman Khan, the two are most likely to work together again in the near future, and have been spending more time together. Asked if he is planning a film with SRK, KJo says, “I should (be planning one). Working with him is a given. He is my family and my friend. We’ll plan out something.”

The two have, in the past, delivered hits such as Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kal Ho Na Ho, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna and My Name Is Khan.

The trouble between the two started last year, when KJo took to Twitter to lash out at PeeCee. After a Mumbai tabloid carried a story quoting Priyanka’s ‘unnamed friends’ strongly defending her in the allegations of a rumoured affair with SRK and hinting that Karan had been bitching about her, KJo tweeted: “Using their hired PR machinery and hiding behind so called friends to get news into tabloids is nothing but spineless and lame.” Then, the filmmaker’s growing proximity to Shah Rukh’s arch rival Salman Khan added to the rift. In December 2012, KJo and Sallu were seen bonding at the Dabangg 2 premiere and Sohail Khan’s birthday party.

Now, however, all that seems to be a closed chapter for the director, and he is now devoting all his time and energy to the production of his upcoming films — Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, Hasee Toh Phasee and Ungli. “Right now, I’m focusing on production. I will direct next year,” says the 40-year-old. However, he did take time out to direct a short film for Bombay Talkies, which, incidentally, is also about relationships. “My short film is about troubled relationships. It’s based on my observations,” he says.
