The social media was full of reactions from female fans (or Cumberbitches as they like to call themselves) from all over the world. "Benedict Cumberbatch just got married. Worst Valentine’s Day ever," tweeted @Grecia Aranzazu. Another fan wrote, "Not only am I single on valentine’s, but Benedict Cumberbatch is supposedly getting married today."

The Sherlock actor, 38, and Sophie, 36, who got engaged in November last year, exchanged vows in a private ceremony in Mottistone, in the Isle of Wight in England. Fans who were waiting to see the newlyweds, were left disappointed as Hunter was shielded from onlookers by umbrellas as she entered the church.

The couple decided not to pose for pictures after the service and went straight to the reception in a classic Jaguar car. The two had announced in January that they are expecting their first child.

According to British tabloids, actors Martin Freeman, Tom Hiddleston and Andrew Scott, (who plays Benedict’s nemesis in the TV series, Sherlock) attended the wedding.
