"What you are both doing together to alleviate the suffering of children who have lost family members, and bereaved families who have experienced the tragedy of losing a child, is beyond praise," said a guest.

The royal couple has also been making unnannounced trips to various UK charities, following a family tradition championed by the late Princess Diana.

Running or founding charities has long been a favored pastime for Britain's royals. Prince Charles, Kate's father-in-law, is the patron or president of no fewer than 20 charities.
