British royal couple Prince William and Kate Middleton have helped to raise £625,000 for a charity, after hosting a special dinner here.

Dailystar.co.uk reports that they welcomed guests to the 100 Women in Hedge Funds gala at St. James' Palace Thursday to benefit the Child Bereavement Charity, of which the prince is a patron.

William Kate"What you are both doing together to alleviate the suffering of children who have lost family members, and bereaved families who have experienced the tragedy of losing a child, is beyond praise," said a guest.

The royal couple has also been making unnannounced trips to various UK charities, following a family tradition championed by the late Princess Diana.

Running or founding charities has long been a favored pastime for Britain's royals. Prince Charles, Kate's father-in-law, is the patron or president of no fewer than 20 charities.
