Know your skin:

* Take a skin test early in the morning to know your skin type. Before washing your face, take a tissue and press it against your face.
* If the tissue gets oil patches and dry spots in relatively equal measure, you have combination skin.
* If the tissue gets very oily, your skin is obviously very oily.
* If there are a few oil spots and the tissue remains more or less dry, you have normal skin.

Make sure:

* You check your skin type and use makeup and makeup remover that suits your skin.
* Use products with glycerine content.
* Your cosmetics do not have a high alcohol content.
* You use only baby oil or almond oil as substitutes for makeup removers.
* You use Vaseline only to remove long stay lip colour and not your eye or face makeup.

1) Remove eye & lip makeup

Take a cotton pad and dab a little eye and lip makeup remover on it. If the cotton feels too dry, moisten it with water. Use gentle strokes to sweep the pad across your eyes to remove your eye shadow, liner, kajal and mascara.
Repeat the process for your lips.
Try: Eye and lip makeup remover from Kett, Shiseido, Chambor, Les Naturelles or M.A.C

2) Clean your face

Step 2 is to clean your face of all makeup (foundation/face powder/blush).
Take a bit of cleansing milk or oil-based cleansing lotion in your palm. Apply it all over your face and then sweep it off in clean strokes with a cotton pad.
Try: Cleansing lotions from Oriflame, Elizabeth Arden, Chambor, Shiseido, Body Shop

3) Wash your face

* Take a skin test early in the morning to know your skin type. Before washing your face, take a tissue and press it against your face.
* If the tissue gets oil patches and dry spots in relatively equal measure, you have combination skin.
* If the tissue gets very oily, your skin is obviously very oily.
* If there are a few oil spots and the tissue remains more or less dry, you have normal skin.

4) Tone your face

This will revitalise your skin and get it back to looking fresh.
Dab a cotton pad with some skin toner and pat it on your face. It will help close the pores and cool your skin.
Try: Toners from Lancome, Lakme and L’Oreal

5) Moisturise it

This is the final stage. Once clean and patted dry, your face needs to get back its moisture content. A soft night cream or milk-based moisturiser does the trick.
Take a little of the cream or moisturiser on your palm and massage it all over your face and neck in upward strokes evenly.
Try: Moisturiser or night creams from Vichy, Avon, Clarins, Oil of Olay or Body Shop
