We asked four fashion week regulars on what they were up to a night before the big day

The lights are on, the runway is shinning clean, and the front row is all set to be fought over. Fashion fever in the Capital is all set to hit a high as the Autumn/Winter edition of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) kicks off today.

But while we get to see the glamour unfold on the runway (and the minor wardrobe malfunction), the night before was all about last minute packing, fittings, gathering up hair straightners and beauty sleep for the people involved, who put this whole shin dig together. Here’s what they were up to while we were sitting in front of our wardrobe deciding what to wear today.

Arshia Ahuja
“Last night, like the last few weeks, has been about detox. I’ve stayed away from make-up and hair products in anticipation of the onslaught of all these products that will happen in the next five days. Also, people might think that we go on crazy diets and workout like mad but we don’t. We just eat healthy and relax as much as possible to prepare ourselves for the hectic days ahead.”

Ambika Pillai
Makeup Artist
“There’s the whole madness of packing up for today. Hair stuff, makeup needed to be arranged. We finished up hair pieces, facial extensions and props that we need to use and then catch whatever little sleep we could. It’s like prepping for marching into battle, just every night.”

Vidyun Singh
Fashion Choreographer
“We’ve been caught up with fittings all day and though we do our best to plan things out, last minute hiccups do happen. A model’s outfit might need some immediate fittings adjustments or there are cue sheets to be prepared. It’s like a revision time before the final exam because once today starts we will have just 30 minutes before each show to get things up and running!”

Neeru Kumar
“As I’m opening the Fashion Week the real excitement will be on the runway so last night was just about sitting back and taking it all in. It’s the first time I’m showing at Fashion Week so there is a bit of nerves but I’m prepared. It’s just a matter of waiting for that first girl to step onto the runway.”

Happy quizzing

The fashion quiz — WHAT’S HAUTE that made its successful debut at the last fashion week, returns on popular demand. The format will involve interesting pairing of a two member team, one from the fashion media and other from the fashion fraternity. The quiz will be again researched and hosted by quiz fanatic Gautam Bhimani on April 9 at the Pragati Maidan from 2:30 pm to 3:00 pm.
Fashion meets art
The world of wearable art returns this season as well. There will be on display an art-meets-fashion installation on April 7 at the Pragati Maidan, 6:15 pm onwards.
