It may be not be the ‘real stuff’, but the wedding gift comes with a strong message.

The Indian chapter of People For Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has sent a faux silk sari and sherwani to Britain’s Prince William and Kate Middleton, who are set to wed on April 29.

They hope the gift will encourage people to shun real silk and adopt eco-friendly artificial silk.

“We had Rajasthani artisans design the outfits from synthetic fabric blends. It’s a block print sari and has sequins on it. The sherwani also has some sequin work to keep it traditional. The idea was to spread the message of how cruel the process of creating real silk is,” says the organisation’s Benazir Suraiya.
