Esha Deol to Soha Ali Khan, best celebrity pregnancy styles of 2017. See pics
Maternity fashion isn’t the just-cover-your-bump-with-a-stole affair that it used to be, thanks to fun pregnancy clothes and knockout celebrity maternity outfits. Here, for proof, are our favourite styles of pregnant actors - we dare you not to pin any of them.fashion and trends Updated: Oct 24, 2017 08:56 IST
Actor Esha Deol gave birth to her first child on Sunday, less than a week after posting Diwali selfies on her Instagram, where she’s seen relaxing with family and friends. We’re amazed at how wonderful and chic the new mama looked, while proving that less really can be more. Her minimalist gold and black ensemble showed off her bump just beautifully and her sleek hair and smoky eye upped the glam.
Since news of Esha’s pregnancy in May, 2017, we’ve had our eyes on her sleek baby-bump styling. Showing us just how fun maternity-wear can be, the Yuva actor refused to give up her fashion aesthetic while pregnant.
Esha favours dresses, sunglasses and flats in her off-duty wardrobe, and one of the reasons she looked so great while pregnant (beside the obvious genetic advantages) is that she didn’t feel the need to change anything too drastic about her look.
Esha’s maternity style choices were a perfect example of how to get it right for any occasion without covering up entirely. Showing a little flesh, in the same way she would when not pregnant, Esha exposed what she was comfortable with: from shoulders to a slither of nape.
But her main lesson for any expectant mom is to not be afraid of bump-baring ensembles: Don’t feel you have to dress like a nun just because you’re plus one.
With retailers and brands making stylish and fun pregnancy clothes, and with more relaxed office dress codes, women who are expecting have a lot of great options. Top that off with the fact that today’s celebrities - from sisters-in-laws Kareena Kapoor Khan and Soha Ali Khan to model Lisa Haydon - are bringing it with the maternity outfit inspiration, and you’ve got an entirely new era of dressing the bump. Their mantra? Flaunt if you want.
If you are searching for your own maternity look for the next few months, or just want to look at beautiful celebrity mamas, here’s a round-up of some of the cutest and sexiest celebrity pregnancy outfits we saw in 2017.
If you always wear black, that’s fine, help yourself - but if you’re usually a rainbow child, don’t give up just because you’re pregnant. Actor Soha Ali Khan always embraces myriad hues in her public appearances, and because she continued to do so when pregnant she succeeded in looking as pretty as always - just with an added passenger.
Throughout her pregnancy, Soha’s party looks helped draw attention to her toned décolletage and slender arms, in one way or another. What can we learn from the Pataudi beauty? Well, just to use a little illusion where required. Clever tweaks keep the attention where she wants it, and her neat bump just minds its own business.
Another lesson from Soha? Heels aren’t forbidden. Many tut-tutters will tell you that heels are completely out of bounds during pregnancy, but if you’re used to wearing them every day, it’s unlikely it will do any harm to wear them for a short time. Taking care, and choosing comfortable shoes, is crucial, but if you’re doing something where you want to feel confident and elevated, sometimes only heels will do. Right, Soha?
Dressing for work is one of the biggest challenges for many pregnant women. Like everything Soha does, her ready-to-attend-meeting outfits were effortless - and there are a few lessons we can learn here, as well. Choose a colour that suits you, throw on a loose coat or jacket, and for goodness sake don’t forget shoes/bags/books/ any accessories that make you smile.
If your usual style revolves around swathing your shape in voluminous tops and dresses, then there’s no reason to show off your bump just because everyone in your life is dying to gawp at it. TV actor Nisha Rawal loves to wear loose dresses, and so pregnancy was no time to change her fashion tune.
Stripes may seem like madness, when most dressing tips aim to elongate your shape, but pregnancy is the one time you will be happy to accept you’re getting wider. Choose black and white stripes as Nisha has, and keep everything else easy-breezy.
Nisha knows how to dress to flatter her shape, and during pregnancy her rules were no different. Her dressed-down black number values comfort over contortion. It is the perfect wardrobe staple and can be transformed with accessories, in Nisha’s case, metallic flats, nude sling and bare face.
Sequins and sparkles may feel a little too festive when you already feel the shape of a disco ball, but if you’re usually partial to embellishment when evening attire is required, there really is no reason to dull your natural shine. Choose a shimmery dress. Simply raising the waistline by a few inches if you’re used to accentuating your waist and keep everything else simple., as model Lisa Haydon has done.
