Dress up: A nice black Viscose layered corset dress is a must-have for the perfect gothic look. Dresses with subtle embellishment or silver sequence work, also look good.

Right makeup: Smoky kohl-lined eyes is a must. Ditch the pencil eye-liner and get the liquid one for the best effect. If you have done up your eyes dramatically, forget the lipstick. And certainly avoid dark, black lipsticks. You could look at wine, red and orange colours with a little lighter eye makeup.

Hairstyle: You can experiment with different hair colour. Black hair will give you a great gothic look, but be careful to make sure that the colour goes with your skin type. And, if you are hesitant about colouring your hair, then you can look at highlighting/streaking your hair.

Accessorize: Choose your accessories well — a choker in the neck, headbands, coloured clips or bobby pins, delicate net gloves and bracelets. Be careful not to over-accessorize. One accessory at a time is the way to go. You don’t have to wear everything in your wardrobe in one day.

Shoes: Try out black boots, or else black gladiator heels would also look great in summer.
