I was taken by surprise: Anita Dongre on Kate wearing her design
For fashion lovers, it was all about what the Duchess of Cambridge would wear on her visit to India, that kickstarted today in Mumbai. And, while the first look was a paisley Alexander Mcqueen creation, Kate Middleton’s second sighting gave us more to talk about. Showing off her cricket skills (along side Sachin Tendulkar) she wore designer Anita Dongre to Oval Maidan in Mumbai.
It’s the first time Middleton is wearing an Indian designer to her maiden visit to the country, having twice worn Indian-origin designer Saloni Lodha back home in London. The breezy, printed dress seemed to be in tandem with her ‘dressing diplomatic’ dictat, as Middleton is known for sporting designers, native to the country of her travel.

Sharing the Duchess’s choice of dress, Mumbai-based Anita Dongre told us that she had no idea Middleton would be wearing her creation today. “This came as a total surprise to me! I honestly had no idea that Kate is going to wear the dress. Yes, someone from my team had mentioned that they had asked for our lookbook, but I never took it too seriously,” says Dongre. The georgette dress is from her summer collection, Love Notes and is Jaipur-inspired with all-over Mughal and architectural motifs.+ +
“So many times people have asked me who I would love to dress, and it has always been Kate for me, I really admire her sense of style so this is super exciting! I think that fashion goes hand in hand with comfort, and I guess that is what Kate chose. I hope to meet her soon,” Dongre adds.
