If there’s one garment you must keep on this summer, it’s the super comfy and chic hot pants or shorts. “Shorts are the new jeans and every girl needs them in her summer wardrobe,” says stylist Yatan Ahluwalia. And, it’s not just the stylists who are vouching for the trend. Bollywood actors such as Anushka Sharma, Jacqueline Fernandez and Amy Jackson, and Hollywood fashionistas, such as singers Rihanna and Cheryl Cole, have flaunted their well-toned pins in shorts making a style statement at various occasions.
With styles ranging from high-waisted, printed to sporty, you can experiment a lot with shorts. To make the look easy-to-grasp, we list four shorts style that you can try.
High-waisted: High-rise shorts should be teamed with tucked-in tops. The variation in a high-waisted shorts include front-pleated, fitted, loose-fit and cut-off shorts, with their lengths ranging from short to mid-thigh. Printed: Shorts in prints, such as floral, graphic, tropical or nautical, are a must-have this season. Shilpi Dhir, owner, Giovani says, “Graphic print shorts will rule this season.”
Mid-length: Also know as day shorts or golf shorts, the mid-length shorts may have a mid-seam of about 7-8 inches. You can team it with tees, shirts, racerbacks or camisoles for a smart and sharp look.
Solid block look: Solid bright colours like hot pink, burnt orange, emerald green, sunny yellow and turquoise in shorts are very trendy. You can sport a colour-block look by teaming bright shorts with another solid colour, or go neutral.
Shorts for your body type
Pear shape: Go for high-waisted, mid-length shorts in dark shades; avoid low-rise styles.
Apple shape: Wear well-fitted shorts; avoid hot pants as they will make you look top-heavy.
Tube shape: Hot pants or body-hugging shorts suit your body. You can experiment with light shades or colour-blocking.
Hour glass shape: Highlight the curves and avoid loose or voluminous silhouettes. If you have well-toned legs, you can try shorter lengths of high-waisted or pleated shorts.
