Remove the damp mud: During monsoon, your leather footwear needs extra care. Damp mud has a tendency to stick to the shoes, and on drying, it hardens, in turn forming a mass on them. In such cases, a brush is the only way to remove the mud.

Dry them well: Do not put the shoes away as soon as you take them off. Keep them under the ceiling fan for a few hours to air them out. If you put your shoes away at once, the sweat from your feet along with the moisture due to rain, will stay and make the shoes smell terrible.

In case of fungus: If your leather shoes are under fungus attack due to moisture, scrub them well using an old toothbrush and some soap solution. After brushing, keep the shoes under the fan to dry. Also, you could leave them out in the sunlight for drying well.

Store them right: Before storing the shoes for next use, stuff them with newspaper to retain their shape and prevent them from bending or creasing. Also, keep the shoes in a cloth shoe bag before putting them in the box.

Polish matters: Never compromise with the quality of the shoe polish as it not only makes your shoe shine, but also protects it from moisture.
