Actor-designer Shama Sikander to compete with fashion biggies at LFW.

Actor Shama Sikander has officially joined the big league. Although her first fashion store in the city only completes a year in November, the actor-designer has scored herself a show at the Lakme Fashion week. “Everybody scared me when I attempted to apply, but the organisers were very sweet to me, maybe because of my status,” she recalls.

Ask if she had to go through the same selection process as every other debutant designer and she replies, “I sent in pictures of my earlier collection, which I’d created for the Hyderabad Fashion Week. They seemed very excited and gave me a slot.”

Sikander’s used to unbending film critics, but is she prepared for the equally vicious fashion police? “Critics always make you better, and since I’m so passionate about everything I do, I will appreciate the criticism and try to improve myself.”

Ask if she plans to expand her store once she’s done with the show, and she says, ‘I’m talking to some stores internationally, and I’m also planning to participate in the Dubai Fashion Week. Right now, fashion is a wholly different school and I’m like a small

child trying to learn everything.”
