Bollywood is a riot of red this season with its fashion forward women wearing the super sexy shade for major photo-ops. While Bipasha Basu rocked a red Pria Kataria Puri maxi at the success party of film Raaz 3 in Mumbai last week, Malaika Arora Khan sizzled in a figure-hugging red Namrata Joshipura gown at a TV show launch in Mumbai. Dia Mirza, too, recently wore a red anarkali at a retail jewellery award. Kareena Kapoor also looked smouldering hot in a red Emanuel Ungaro jumpsuit as she launched the first look of Heroine in Mumbai in July.

Design gurus say red is a hot favourite this fall. “A great choice for the Indian skin tone, red is this season’s hottest colour,” says designer Rina Dhaka. It’s also the first colour divas choose to look sexy and dramatic. “Red is a loud, attention grabbing colour. No wonder Bollywood divas flaunt it whenever they want to make a bold statement,” says designer Ritu Beri.

The colour is also considered auspicious in India, and actors often wear it as their lucky charm. “Red is sacred for Indians. It’s sort of irreplaceable in the festive season,” says designer Kapil Arora. While designers vouch for the shade this season, they advise a subtle look. “Go for red lips with red outfits, but keep your accessories minimal,” says Dhaka.
