Serena Williams' India parade
The tennis ace is in India to launch a new range of personal computers HP Pavilion Notebooks. Serena Williams walked the ramp for Delhi-based designers Shantanu and Nikhil on Sunday at Hewlett Packard’s fashion show wearing a short red satin dress.
Williams, who is a fashion designer herself, says that over the years she has observed a lot of Indian fashion, with an eye for styles, shapes and designs.
“I really loved what I saw at the show,” she states.
Williams is known for her flamboyant outfits on centre court, but her fashion statements aren’t just for herself, she asserts. “Of course it’s fun to wear trendy designs but I also do it to bring in more people to watch tennis,” she insists.
The baton has being handed over to Sania Mirza . “Sania has done a lot for Indian tennis. I told her she’s an eye-catcher too,” says Williams. As a student of design, she worked with a lot of Indian fabrics.
“I’m really interested in the silks and cottons. There are so many different varieties and textures available here. I’d like to take some of it back home with me,” she says.
But, before she returns to the US,Williams plans to visit the Taj Mahal. She asserts,“ I’ve always wanted to see it and I am going to on this trip.”
