She’s just a girl next door, until she puts on some make-up. With a few strokes of make-up brushes and intelligent conceptualisation, 22-year-old Promise Tamang Phan from Nepal can turn herself into any celebrity — from actor Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox to singer Taylor Swift and legendary King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

One would think that it takes years of experience and professional training to achieve such a feat, but Promise springs another surprise by calling herself an amateur artiste who is purely self-taught. “I was always passionate about art and drew portraits when I was younger. But now I have taken it to the next level. I use make-up instead of pencils, and my face has replaced paper,” says the talented video blogger, who regularly posts make-up tutorials under the YouTube handle dope2111.

Ask how she stumbled upon her unique craft, and she says, “Growing up I never felt that I was pretty, so I used to constantly try different techniques to enhance my facial features. But this insecurity turned out to work in my favour. It gave me the idea to experiment with different characters. However, I don’t wear too much make-up in real life.”

Promise is currently working on turning into singer-actor Jennifer Lopez, musician Chris Brown and late songstress Amy Winehouse. Her first video tutorial was on Na’vi princess Neytiri’s look from filmmaker James Cameron’s Avatar; and it got her an encouraging feedback. Promise is also a diehard Bollywood fan and says she would love to work in the film industry. “I love India, and I watch Hindi movies all the time. I have done a few Bollywood bridal looks as well. I simply love everything about John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra,” she says.

Currently, the make-up whiz says that her plate is full working on a new YouTube network called FAWN (For All Women Network) and the beauty website She’s also trying to increase her Indian fan base. “I am planning to transform into Aishwarya Rai Bachchan because she’s one of the world’s most beautiful women, and Bipasha Basu because she’s gifted with such exotic features,” adds Promise.
