The trends at Lakme Fashion Week were all about lounge fashion and resort chic

Designer: Sabyasachi Mukherjee
Age: 36
Known for: Revival fashion
Trend: Western silhouettes
Review: Sabyasachi showed what he is well-known for — his ability to play with different fabrics in a single outfit. He showed western silhouettes and a couple of outfits were in solid, vibrant hues. His new style definitely won wows from the audiences.

Designer: Anamika Khanna
Age: 35
Known for: Muted tones
Trend: Shredded jackets
Review: The collection had ‘shredded’ jackets in colours like black and white with traces of gold. Pants and blouses, long shirts with strategic side embroidery made the garments simplistic and elegant.

Designer: Arpan Vohra
Age: 30
Known for: Breezy western wear
Trend: Resort wear
Review: The collection was all about breezy fashion with a sporty touch in smart cuts. One saw well executed western formats with rope and zipper detailing.

Designers: Jai and Parvesh
Age: 28 and 30
Known for: Textures
Trend: Beach babe fashion
Review: The collection opened with a smattering of knee-length ponchos, kaftans, maxis, apllique shrugs in cool summer colours like powder blues, peaches and cream. Animal print added an edge.

Designer: Preeti S Kapoor
Age: 30
Known for: Vibrant embroidery
Trend: Indian motifs
Review: The collections showed the ethnic Indian wear like lehengas, saris in a riot of colours juxtaposed together. Unmistakable Indian prints and motifs like flowers and paisley kept the flavour alive.

Designer: Chaitanya Rao
Age: 36
Known for: Swimsuits
Trend: Sharp cuts
Review: The collection was all about tone embroidery in interesting colour palette. The garments were well finished. Solid coloured swimwear with frill tops remained the highlight of the show.

More goss from the front row

Riya SenLacklustre showstoppers

The Lakme fashion week otherwise known for an overdose of Bollywood, saw a lukewarm star presence on runway on day 1. Riya Sen for Arpan Vohra and Geeta Basra for Jai-Parvesh failed to impress as showstoppers

Other highlights
Actor Jacqueline Fernandez created some action amongst the shutterbugs as she came for an energy drink promotional event. Wearing a shimmery black halter top, Fernandez was all smiles for the camera

Fashion addicts
Actor Sonam Kapoor, did the customary fashionista ritual by turning up to watch the shows on day 1 itself. She was seen wearing a trouser suit by designer Anamika Khanna with sister Rhea Kapoor in tow

Talent to watch out for
The major focus of fashion editors on day 1 remained on the Gen Next show. Emerging designers Shivaji Dutta, Deux A, Manas Dash, Miriam Strehla showed an energetic and vibrant collection
