Two-in-one: The magic of black and white overshadows all at Cannes

The red carpet on Day 7 of the Cannes Film Festival was overshadowed by the classic trend of black-and-white.

Black and white have always been the fashion world’s favourite babies. Whether it is the universal LBD (little black dress) or an alluring new staple, monochrome has always been a fail-safe trend. Day 7 of the Cannes Film Festival, too, saw an abundance of black and white with a few exceptions. From velvet to bling, the shades were showcased in all their glory. On the other hand, while Aishwarya Rai Bachchan hasn't made a red carpet appearance after her emerald green outing, she looked pretty in plum during a photocall of her new film.

Aishwarya has had a great run at the festival till now. After a floral Sabyasachi Mukherjee jumpsuit, a white top-and-trousers look by Stella McCartney, and an emerald green Elie Saab couture gown, the actor upped the style quotient in a maroon strapless Oscar de la Renta gown during the photocall of the event that showcased a glimpse of her upcoming film. The ruffled number teamed with a plum lip colour made her stand out.

Bringing back the feathered look on the red carpet was this Asian actor, who sported an elaborate Ashi Studio couture gown. Adding a touch of drama, the outfit showcased delicate embroidery and a feathered hemline, which seems to be quite a trend lately.

Adriana Lima
It won't be wrong to call Adriana the black magic woman. While the model stayed away from a dramatic ensemble, her fitted Ulyana Sergeenko gown, highlighting her curves, was enough to grab eyeballs.

Cate Blanchett

After a dramatic printed, voluminous gown, Cate Blanchett opted for a more classic outfit for her red carpet appearance on Day 7 of the festival. With a plunging neckline and a long trail, the bold black Armani Privé gown featured subtle bead detailing.

Emily Blunt

It was bling all the way for Emily, who made a red carpet appearance in a full-sleeved, fitted Stella McCartney dress. The actor added a dash of colour to her white floor-length number with crystal embellishments with a pair of emerald earrings.

Doutzen Kroes

Sporting monochrome in an impressive column dress by Dior was Doutzen. While the model opted for a simple outfit, it rated quite high in the style stakes.
