Vintage fashion, a style of clothing made in the 1910s up to 1960s, has always in vogue internationally. Be it the Gucci flapper dresses, or the very 60s psychedelic prints and monochrome ensembles popularised by American TV show Mad Men, fashion forward girls can draw a lot of inspiration from vintage styles, and incorporate them into their dressing — right from the silhouettes to the stitching style, embroidery, and print.

Usually real vintage items carry an expensive price tag. If you can’t afford the real vintage, there is plenty of ‘vintagy’ stuff designers and retail brands are recreating, inspired by iconic styles from the bygone eras using modern techniques and fabrics. You can pick up affordable options from high street brands as well. We highlight some real vintage and modern vintage-looking options that can be found in Delhi.

The real Vintage catch
* A good way to distinguish between real vintage and fake is the fabric. If it’s a blend or an elastic stretch, it can’t be vintage.
* Vintage garments are considered investment pieces. If the fashion item is in a good state and captures the era’s culture well, then it is a good buy.
* Websites such as and highlight some authentic vintage items you can take inspiration from.
