A car drove into crowds at Berlin’s Christopher Street Day (Pride) celebrations in Tiergarten park, killing one person and injuring around 15 others, forcing police to seal off the area and cut the parade short as officers launched an intensive manhunt for the driver or possible suspects. Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner vowed that the “city of freedom and diversity” would not let anyone take away its way of life, saying it is too early to determine the motive and expressing confidence that police will identify and bring the perpetrator or perpetrators to justice, while a Berlin police spokesperson stressed that the vehicle was later found empty after hitting a tree and that multiple witnesses are being interviewed to reconstruct the incident.
