Remember that Friends episode, when Ross and Chandler try to quit their gym membership, but end up with a joint bank account instead? We know cancelling a gym membership can be a tough process.
Recently, US-based Robert Scucci was told that he can’t cancel his membership over the phone; he had to either do it in person or write a certified letter to the gym. Scucci turned it into a detailed breakup letter to Planet Fitness.
“Planet Fitness wouldn’t let me cancel (my membership) over the phone, and required a certified letter to cancel since I live in a different state now,” he wrote in a post on Reddit, which was accompanied by a photo of the letter.
“I dropped this in the mail today.”

In a classic breakup style, Scucci manages to squeeze in cliches like “I still love you, but as a friend”, or this gem, “I know I’ve been distant, but it’s because I’ve changed”. He further writes, “I have different needs now, and to be frank … you really haven’t changed at all. You’re still that bulky, purple and yellow building with the tootsie rolls at the counter. I don’t want to change you, and it pains me to think that we were once one, but are now separate and in different places.”
When there’s a breakup, there’s also the possibility of a new relationship. In this case, Scucci talks about his new gym, the one in his apartment complex. “I don’t want you to be jealous, or to judge me based on this decision. That is not the Planet Fitness that I know and love,” he writes.
In the end, Scucci also manages to add that: “PS: My wife also needs to cancel her membership”
The hilarious breakup letter went viral and there was a response from Planet Fitness with referring to Scucci as an “old flame”.
In the response, Planet Fitness’ representative wrote, “You know what they say though, if you love something, set it free... You’ll come back, they always do.”
