From champions last season, Chennaiyin FC slide down to ‘also rans’ this season

The reigning ISL champions Chennaiyin FC finished seventh this season with 15 points.

Champions last year but could only narrowly avoid the wooden spoon this year in Indian Super League – that has exactly been the plight of Chennaiyin FC this season. The only solace for them is that the runners-up from last season, FC Pune City were the ones below them. But that’s no excuse for what had been a largely disappointing season.
