Virender Sehwag praises India FIFA U-17 World Cup team for making ‘idli’ out of Italy

Former Indian cricket international Virender Sehwag was at his witty best on Twitter once again.

This time he crossed over from the cricket field onto the football pitch to convey his best to the India FIFA U-17 World Cup football team that managed to better their Italian counterparts.

As part of an exposure trip to Europe in preparation for the upcoming 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup, the Indian junior team played against the Italy under-17 team on Friday.

India won the match in Arezzo, Italy ,by two goals, with the hosts unable to score. Abhijit Sarkar and Rahul Praveen found the net for India.

Tweeting about the match later in the day, Sehwag congratulated the Indian boys for the victory that many have termed historic and a giant-killing act.

“Yaay ! We have beaten Italy. Congratulations to the under 17 @IndianFootball on the spectacular victory. Italy ki idli ban gayi ! (sic),” Sehwag tweeted on Friday.

Sehwag, mentor of the Kings XI Punjab team that finished fifth in the 2017 IPL standings, is known to wear his heart on his sleeve and carry a funny bone, especially on social media.

He is one of many celebrities to have come out in support of the India under-17 team and the upcoming under-17 World Cup which will be the first major international football tournament to be hosted in India.

The under-17 World Cup will take place from October 6 to 28 with matches set to take place in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Goa, Guwahati and Kochi.
