Barricades removed, U-Turn blocked near Genpact Chowk in Gurgaon, traffic flow smoothensUpdated: Aug 03, 2017, 11:45 IST
District authorities have removed barricades from Genpact Chowk on Golf Course Road, in a move they believe will will help in decongestig the area to a large extent.
The removal of barricades had increased the road width, making an additional stretch of road operational. A U-turn has also been blocked on the road for streamlining traffic flow.
As per sources, the DLF 5 underpass is also nearing completion and is likely to open next month.
Genpact chowk has been the bane on Golf Course Road since the last six months owing to a construction of the DLF 5 underpass there.
Traffic in the area was thrown out of gear for two hours on July 25 morning after a crane broke down at the Genpact crossing and blocked movement of vehicles on one lane. Traffic police officials also had to be deputed at the crossing to regularize traffic movement on July 5 and 6 after construction work led to an encroachment on the main road.
After the recent changes, traffic heading from Sikanderpur towards AIT Chowk will now have an option of choosing two roads to clear the junction, one of which is marginally elevated. Once the roads merge ahead, commuters also will have four lanes accessible to them against two earlier.
The authorities have also blocked the U-turn opposite South Point Mall and prevented traffic coming from St Thomas Marg to merge with traffic from Sikanderpur towards AIT Chowk at the Genpact Chowk which was causing severe congestion. Instead, a u-turn now has been created opposite one horizon centre for commuters to travel towards AIT Chowk.
“As the DLF 5 underpass is nearing completion, barricades have been removed and traffic congestion is likely to ease. Once the underpass opens next month, traffic flow on Golf Course Road will be streamlined further”, an official of DLF said, on condition of anonymity.
On July 26, authorities had also opened two new U-turns 500 metres from the junction located opposite to the entrance of Park Drive and Augusta Point.
Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) and DLF are building the DLF 5 underpass jointly. Once functional the 8.3km road from Sector 55/56 to Shankar Chowk will be signal-free.
