The three-day celebrations took off on Wednesday with residents offering prayers and welcoming Lord Ganesh. Nearly seven pandals have been set up and people could be seen making last-minute preparations for the event.

Sweets were distributed in the evening, while priests chanted hymns in praise of Lord Ganesh. The idols were specially decorated for the occasion.

But all this glittering had a lot of hard work behind it.

“We spent the entire night preparing for the day,” said GVD Ramesh of the Telugu Welfare Association, which is conducting the festival in Agarwal dharamshala on the Gurdwara Road.

“We have been waiting for this moment since a long time. We spent the whole night decorating the temple,” said Anil Dodiya of Gujarat Ganesh Mahotsav, which is organising the festival at the Shiv Mandir in Shiv Puri.

“We unveiled the three foot tall idol at 5pm. This was followed by puja,” added Dodiya.
