Civil hospital CMO to submit report in teen rape case

"We will initiate an inquiry if there is proof of lapses by doctors. Disciplinary action will be taken, if need be" Arora told HT.
The victim, who is 16-week pregnant, was treated at the Civil Hospital on Monday after a court order despite the fact that a March 12 medico-legal report by doctors of the same hospital had confirmed rape and pregnancy.
The Civil Hospital had referred her to Delhi's Safdarjung hospital the same day as doctors thought her case was too critical to be handled at their level.
At Safdarjung hospital, she was attended to after much persuasion as the referral letter from the Civil Hospital didn't mention her criticality. Instead, it said that she was referred for better treatment on the wish of her family.
According to doctors treating the victim at the Delhi hospital, the victim is "weak but stable".
The girl was admitted to the gynecology ward at the hospital on Monday afternoon, with 16 weeks of pregnancy.
Apart from several blood tests, the doctors performed an ultrasound scan on the girl on Tuesday to track the growth of the fetus. Doctors, after discussing with the girl's family, have decided to medically terminate her pregnancy.
"We have put her on dietary supplements and other medication. But we need to terminate her pregnancy given her age and condition. We have explained everything to the family and they have also agreed," said a senior doctor at the hospital, requesting anonymity.
