Disclose your meter tampering and get benefit before May 31: Discom in Gurgaon

In a raid by the vigilance team of DHBVN on Monday, three police officials were found guilty of illegally consuming electricity at the recruitment training colony near Bhondsi.

The Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitaran Nigam (DHBVN) has offered consumers a scheme wherein they can make a disclosure if their power meters have been tampered with or are not working. Tampering of electricity meters is an offence and a consumer can be fined.

The offer to disclose the tampering of meters is available till May 31. The DHBVN would not charge any penalty on consumers who voluntarily surrender their meters before the date.

“The offer is a bonus for thousands of consumers and we would encourage them to avail of the offer. Meter tampering cases are on the rise. We do not have exact numbers, but we suspect that meter tampering is happening in areas where electricity consumption is higher than the sanctioned load,” said Navin Verma, superintending engineer, DHBVN.

Verma said, “The offer is available for consumers having a sanctioned load of up to 20 KW in domestic and non-domestic sectors. Besides that, we have also offered consumers the option to pay the electricity bill if not paid since January this year and the DHBVN would not charge any interest from them. This offer is valid for consumers having an electricity load up to 2KW.”
