For the last couple of weeks, a number of people have been spending extra hours in their office, but not exactly for the love of work. Executives say they prefer the comfort of the air conditioned office to their hot and humid homes that do not have power and water supply.

As office buildings have power backups and large water tanks, people do not have to worry about frequent outages and water crisis.

Residents have been complaining of 12-hour-long outages in areas such as Sushant Lok, DLF City, South City and sectors 29, 40, 31, 56, 53 and 55. Even the water supply is affected because of the erratic power supply.

“I have been coming to office early in the last couple of days because of the frequent power cuts and voltage fluctuations in our area. I was tired of sleepless nights and it started affecting my work efficiency too. I come by 8am and sit in my air conditioned cabin, at times take a small nap, and get to work,” Sector 28 resident Kunal Negi, who works in an e-commerce firm, said.

Palam Vihar resident Savita Chaowdhry, who works in a private hospital, said, “Last night’s thunderstorm disrupted the power connection in the colony. I came to work early to escape the hot and humid weather.”

A few executives are packing their clothes to work because of the inadequate water supply at home. They take shower in the office bathroom. Residents say if they wait for water tankers every day, their work will have to be compromised.

“The city has become impossible to live in. Either there is a power cut or there is no water supply. Tired of standing in long queues daily, I have started taking a shower in my office gym,” Abhishek Sharma of Sushant Lok said.

“Four of us live here as paying guests. All of us have been going to work early and we come back only after confirming that the power supply has been restored,” Sharma said.
