The high court about a week ago or more clubbed all cases of Haryana oustees filed by aggrieved individuals in different courts and under different benches in the past decade. The high court placed the oustees case before a larger bench to hear and dispose it as early as possible.

The oustees of Gurgaon have hailed the high court decision as they had been under a lot of stress over the years and they were made to shuttle between Gurgaon and Chandigarh seeking alternative plots and compensation for the land acquired.

Vivek Kalia, estate officer (EO) Huda Circle II, said, “Huda has put on hold the e-auction in view of the oustees’ pleas. The pending cases of oustees in the high court are being heard by a larger or full bench and the Huda has to compensate oustees with alternative plots. So in order to protect oustees’ right to have adequate land compensation, the Huda decided to keep vacant plots in several sectors. Huda will not conduct an e-auction till further directions from the headquarters in this regard. We believe that this is a proactive step by the department in view of oustees.”

According to a Huda official, more than 1,000 oustees had moved the high court against Huda seeking judicial intervention in order to get land in various sectors after their lands or plots were acquired by the government for infrastructure development.

For instance, to construct the Northern, Southern and Connecting Peripheral Road (NPR, SPR and CPR) and sector roads, Huda acquired land in Gurgaon, but most of these projects are stuck in litigation. More than 750 land owners have filed cases against Huda in the court demanding adequate compensation.
