The memorial, which has been built in the honour of the 114 martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the historic battle of Rezang La pass, will be inaugurated on December 29 by Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

A majority of war heroes of the 13th Kumaon Regiment were from south Haryana districts of Gurgaon, Rewari and Mahendragarh.

"109 of the 114 soldiers who laid down their lives were from Ahirwal community hailing from south Haryana region," TC Rao of Rezangla Sahidi Samaroh Samiti. The monument, spread in 7,000 sqft, has been built at Karterpuri in Sector 23 near Palam Vihar.

The Rezang La pass is located at an altitude of 17,000 feet around 30km south of Chushul valley in Jammu and Kashmir.

The battle was led by Major Shaitan Singh who was conferred the Param Vir Chakra posthumously.

Around 1,600 war widows, 3,000 ex-servicemen and many social activists will take part in the inauguration function.
