The funerary complex, being built by the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda), will have facilities for Hindus, Muslims and Christians.

“We will not allow a funerary complex close to our village. There are enough vacant sites away from populated areas,” said Ashok Kumar, local councilor, who led the protest.

The Huda had acquired 10 acres of land and prepared a detailed project report (DPR) for the project three years ago with a December 2012 deadline.

“Residents don’t want their children to grow up close to a crematorium. The Huda should look for an alternative,” said a former sarpanch of village Wazirabad.
