Lawyers to stage hunger strike, seek ‘fair’ probe

The lawyer, Ravi Shankar Yadav has been booked in a dowry case after his wife Pooja was found hanging from a ceiling fan at the couple's home earlier this month.
"Shankar has been requesting the police to trace Pooja's personal diary which will clear the doubts being raised on him. But the police have been reluctant in accepting the recovery of any such diary," said bar association president Satibir Singh Tanwar.
Tanwar said that the protest is not to safeguard the accused but to put pressure on the police to hold a fair investigation.
On Tuesday, a general meeting of the bar association was called to discuss the issue. It was attended by around 500 lawyers. Tanwar said at least 200 lawyers will sit on a hunger strike from 8am to 2pm on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the station station house officer of Sector-5 police station, Harendra Singh, who is investigating the case, said he is "not concerned about the protest" and will continue to focus on the probe.
“I don’t bother about what lawyers are doing,” the SHO said and refused to share any detail of the case.
The victim's family members had also held a protest recently at the mini secretariat for speedy investigation in the case.
