Many parts of the city, located on left side of the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, will have power outages for two to three hours on Tuesday due to the replacing old and outdated cables at the substation.
The power cuts were announced by the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam (HVPN) on Monday.
Power fluctuations and power tripping have already been causing massive inconveniences to residents and the scheduled outages would only incovenience them more, especially with Diwali just a few days away.
The areas where the outages are scheduled include sectors 45, 46, 52, Wazirabad, Sushant Lok-2, Rider House, Wellington Estate and several other parts of the city.
Senior station engineer (SSE), HVPN, Amit Kumar, said the scheduled power cuts are essential to replace old and outdated cable at the substation in Sector 52. He said the outages will be for two hours between 9am and 11am.
“We hope that the replacement of cables will be completed in two hours. The change is essential to enhance electricity transmission at the substation. Old and outdated cables have been a major cause for power tripping over the past several months. The HVPN finally decided to replace the old cables with new ones to improve supply,” said Kumar.
He said the supply in other parts of city will be normal.
Sanjiv Saxena, a resident of Sector 45, said, “The power cuts due to tripping continues to inconvenience us and the distribution agency has failed to check it. The maintenance agency appointed by the discom is a big disappointment as the contractor hardly attends to complaints.”
The residents said that both HVPN and the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) work in piecemeal fashion.
Satish Solanki, a resident of Sector 17, said, “The main reason of tripping is old and outdated transformers and cables. These have to be urgently replaced across the city to provide uninterrupted supply as promised by the Haryana government. The biggest tragedy is that despite the government announcing that Gurgaon will get 24X7 supply, we are reeling under three-hour power cuts on a daily basis.”
