According to officials, a 22-crore project to lay underground electric cables in several residential and commercial areas is likely to get the nod from the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda). Officials of the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitaran Nigam (DHBVN) and Huda met in Chandigarh to discuss the issue.

Areas such as Parsvanath Green Ville, Uniworld Garden, Nirvana, South City, Vatika and others will be connected with the underground cable line to be laid along the Sohna Road. The DHBVN has to execute the project as soon as it gets approval from the Huda, under whose jurisdiction Sohna Road falls.

"We are preparing estimates and shortly we will come clear on the issue," said Pankaj Kumra, chief engineer, Huda.

According to DHBVN official, Huda had sought estimates of the project as per the mutually agreed planning and the estimate was sent about a year ago.

"The idea is to beautify the city and reduce the nuisance of overhead cable hanging dangerously in the city," said a senior DHBVN official.

Once the estimate of the project is approved, DHBVN will float tenders.

The project will be implemented in two phases. The first phase would cover a 3-km stretch between Rajiv Chowk and Subhash Chowk.

Later, the project would go on till the T-point of the southern peripheral road (SPR) near Badshahpur in the second phase.

“We had appointed a team of experts who visited Jaipur to assess the project. After that we prepared an estimate and sent its estimate to Huda," said a senior DHBVN official.
