The occupants of all the flats were out of city when the miscreants struck. The incident came to light around 4.45am when one of the guards was inspecting the ground floor and saw the lock of a flat broken. He informed the police.

The robbers targeted flat numbers 5, 36, 72 and 73, all located in building no. 210 and facing the Gurgaon-Faridabad Expressway.

The police said though 22 guards had been deployed in the society, none of them was present at the rear gate of the community when the theft was committed. No CCTV cameras have been installed in the colony.

The occupant of flat number 5 complained to the police that his laptop and mobile phone had been stolen.

The police alleged that the guard at building number 210 fell asleep and later cooked up a story that he was held hostage at gunpoint by the robbers to hoodwink the residents.

Inspector Surinder Phogat, SHO, DLF City Phase-1, said, “We have registered a case and are conducting investigations.”

He said dog squads had been pressed into service and forensic experts had collected samples from the crime scene.

The police said valuables such as a laptop, mobile phone and a few watches had been stolen.
