Scented postage stamps a hit this Valentine’s Day in Gurgaon

Even as the usual gifts options were available in the market, the stamps, which come in rose and sandalwood fragrances, stand out, an official of the postal department said.

The postal department last week brought out a series of fragrant stamps to celebrate the occasion. The new stamps will enable the buyers to have their pictures or of the ones they wish to dedicate the day to pasted on them.

On the eve of the Valentine’s Day more than 50 people visited the post office in DT Mega Mall mall on Golf Course Road to get the scented stamps.

CJ Arora, post master of Sadar Bazar post office, said, “Every day, around 12 to 15 people are getting their pictures pasted on the special series of stamps which were launched under the ‘My Stamp’ scheme.”

A sheet of 12 fragrant stamps will cost Rs 500. Each stamp has a postal value of Rs 5.

Buyers said the scented stamps stand out from other gifts. “I am taking five sheets and each will have a picture of my daughter, wife, mother and sister. This is my Valentine’s gift for my family,” Hardeep Singh Kataria of Vatika City said.

“The aim to reach out to the youth was achieved this year, as we are getting response from school children, couples, and families. The fragrances on these stamps will linger on for five years,” Sanjeev Nigam, an official of philatelic bureau and post office, said.
