Seven new fire-fighting vehicles for Gurgaon

The Gurgaon fire services has been facing a shortage of fire-fighting vehicles after the National Green Tribunal issued an order imposing a blanket ban on the use of 10-year-old diesel vehicles in Delhi and the NCR.

The department of fire services on Friday provided seven new fire-fighting vehicles to four fire stations in the district, a step aimed at overcoming the shortage of fire tenders in Gurgaon.

The Gurgaon fire services has been facing a shortage of fire-fighting vehicles after the National Green Tribunal issued an order imposing a blanket ban on the use of 10-year-old diesel vehicles in Delhi and the NCR.

Twelve of the fire-fighting vehicles in Gurgaon are more than 10 years old and cannot ply. The department has been left with only 13 vehicles and it mostly relies on private agencies who own fire-fighting vehicles like DLF, Maruti and Honda.

Senior fire officer IS Kashyap said, “The demand of vehicles has been met. Although there has been no gruesome incident of fire in the city, but it has always been a matter of concern for us. All the new vehicles are equipped with latest technology.”

The directorate of fire services last month provided three fire-fighting vehicles to Gurgaon, which include one foam crush tender and two water bowsers in view of shortage of vehicles. The new seven vehicles given to Gurgaon district include six water bowsers and one advance rescue tender.

The proposal for the vehicles was sent to the headquarters on February 26 and June 22.
