Researchers at Otago University in New Zealand recruited 70 subjects, with results showing that those who regularly walked around for one minute and 40 seconds had lower blood sugar and insulin levels than those who didn't budge from their desks during the work day.Raised sugar and insulin readings are warning signs that you could be at risk of type 2 diabetes, which can lead to stroke and heart disease.

The study appear online in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.A separate study published last month in the journal Diabetes Care finds that if you're at risk of developing type 2 diabetes, taking a 15-minute walk after every meal can curb a "risky rise" in blood sugar. Prior research has also confirmed that exercise, including 45-minute daily walks, can cut your risks of the disease.
