Amitabh Bachchan has slammed the hype around the superstitions surrounding Paul, the octopus oracle, which has correctly predicted the result of many World Cup matches.

“The surprise of the predictions of the Octopus Paul have brought superstition right onto the front pages... This is quite amazing and ridiculous at the same time,” Bachchan wrote on his blog.

The actor then went on to recall how the media reports of his daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s marriage to a tree to ward off bad omen had mislabelled his family as being superstitious. “Aishwarya and Abhishek married, and they marry her off to a tree to ward off

omen. Where on earth do they (media) concoct such stories?” he posted.

“Millions of media forum clarifications later, they still seek an answer to it. They obsess over it because a juicy story suddenly lost its ground when truth prevailed. They design a story of a simple visit to a temple as being the motive for clearing Aishwarya’s bad omen,” Bachchan added.
