Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War, the 19th film in the decade-long superhero franchise, has made Rs 79 crore in two days at the Indian box office. The film will soon cross the coveted Rs 100 crore mark in the opening weekend itself. This is an unprecedented figure for a Hollywood movie in India and enough to make it the year’s biggest debut for any movie in the country, beating out the likes of Tiger Shroff’s Baaghi 2 and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the second day’s figures on Sunday. “#AvengersInfinityWar continues to DEMOLISH RECORDS. Continues to create HAVOC at the BO... Fri 31.30 cr, Sat 30.50 cr. Total: ₹ 61.80 cr NettBOC. India biz... GrossBOC: ₹ 79.23 cr... #Avengers #InfinityWar.”

Adarsh had also tweeted some stats on Infinity War’s opening Friday, in which he listed the top five openings of the year in India. Baaghi 2 had debuted to Rs 25 crore on Friday, while Padmaavat made Rs 24 crore on its opening day (a Wednesday).
The latest offering from Marvel is a phenomenon across the world. The film became the first superhero movie in history to gross more than $100 million in one day in the US. The opening day collections of $105 million are second only to Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ $116 million haul in 2015. Industry experts are predicting Infinity War to make $240 million in its US opening weekend, which would make it the second highest debut in history, after Force Awakens’ $248 million.
By comparison, the first Avengers film had opened to $207 million in 2012 - a record back then. Internationally, the film made an estimated $178.5 million after three days, bringing its worldwide total to $284 million (Rs 1890 crore).
The film stars Robert Downey Jr, Josh Brolin, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L Jackson, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Don Cheadle, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Tom Hiddleston.
