Deepika Padukone and Vin Diesel’s xXx: Return of Xander Cage made $70 million worldwide (Rs 468 crore) over the February 10 weekend, and more than $60 million of that total came from a blockbuster, record-breaking opening in China.
xXx: Return of Xander Cage opened in India on January 14, one week before its global debut.
The film opened in 6600 screens in China and broke the record for the biggest debut for a Hollywood movie in that region, reports Box Office Mojo. The film also scored the second-biggest IMAX debut ever behind The Monkey King.
The action sequel’s current global figure stands at $230 million, which translates to over Rs 1500 crore. The film was budgeted at $85 million.
Fifty Shades Darker however, was the number one film worldwide. According to estimates by ComScore, the second installment Universal’s erotic trilogy, based on the novels by EL James, took in $146.9 million worldwide over the weekend.
